The EZResus mobile application developed by Dr. Frédéric Lemaire of Charles-Le Moyne Hospital, which facilitates the administration of medications to patients in emergency situations, won the Deep Space Healthcare Challenge of the Canadian Space Agency, announced the Charles-Le Moyne Foundation on February 28.

Dr Lemaire worked for eight years on the design of this application, in collaboration with around twenty of his colleagues. The tool allows the medical team “to quickly find the right dosage, the right concentration and the appropriate speed of administration of each medication based on different patient characteristics,” reports the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Montérégie-Centre (CISSSMC).

“Medicine worked very well before our application, but what it changes concretely is that it takes away the mental load to concentrate on the patient,” the doctor said during the launch in December 2021. It is certain that we “We always double check, but the ambient stress level goes down a lot.”

Dr. Lemaire received support from the Charles-Le Moyne Hospital Foundation and the Charles-Le Moyne Research Center. The application, which is used in 29 countries by 5,000 doctors, can give nearly 100 medications in pediatric and adult intensive care.

The objective of the competition was to “develop new health technologies that might be used in remote communities and by astronauts on missions”according to the Foundation.

“This is absolutely incredible news! It’s a childhood dream come true! What a tremendous recognition, but above all what an extraordinary opportunity for us to continue our work to create the best application possible and distribute it to as many communities as possible, and tomorrow, to astronauts on missions in space. What really matters at the end of the day is to save more and more lives during the first hour of resuscitation,” underlines Dr. Frédéric Lemaire in a press release.
