the couple falls from above today, “it cost 224 euros…”

Seven years ago, Luc Hasselaar wanted to please his wife Denise for Valentine’s Day. This Belgian then offered him a card which gave him unlimited access to the Hezemeer wellness center located in Laakdal, near Tessenderlo.

“The vouchers cost 224 euros and had unlimited validity, which was clearly indicated on the voucher”, explains Luc to our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad.

If the couple had planned to go there in the summer of 2016, it is unfortunately stopped dead in its plans because Denise is diagnosed with breast cancer. It is following 6 years of surgery and chemotherapy, at the beginning of the year 2022, that Denise is recognized as cured.

The couple then decides to allow themselves a moment of relaxation in Hezemeer. “It was a big milestone for my wife. I asked at the reception if we might take advantage of our care package but the staff might not answer me”, explains Luc.

In order to clarify this, the sexagenarian sends an e-mail to the head office and learns, at the same time, that the “WorthlessSauna Hezemeer” has been bought by a Dutch group. A clarification that is important because according to the FPS Economy, a new owner is not required to accept old gift vouchers.

“There is no specific legislation on gift vouchers in Belgium,” clarifies spokeswoman Lien Meurisse. “These are contractual documents that bind only the parties who entered into the agreement”.

In other words, Luc’s gift voucher no longer has any value from 2022. The couple then tries to contact the marketing manager of the Dutch group.

The latter is fortunately understanding. “Given the proof of payment provided and the very sad and difficult situation in which Mr. and Mrs. Pagnaer find themselves, we are happy to offer them another package so that they can still enjoy a day of well-being. to be together in Hezemeer following all these years”.

Fortunately, then, all’s well that ends well for Luc and Denise!
