Lithuania has the “Ažuoliuka” and Austria has the equally famous St. Florian’s Boys’ Choir. Countertenor Alois Mühlbacher entered the music scene precisely from this choir, which he started attending at the age of five and with which he traveled to many countries around the world. He often had reliable solo soprano parts (for example, performing Gustav Mahler’s Fourth Symphony at the Salzburg Festival). Loud Alois became Austria’s young star: a half-hour TV movie was even made about him.

On the opera stage – from 15 years old

At the age of fifteen, in 2010 A. Mühlbacher made his debut at the Vienna State Opera, performing the role of the Shepherd in Richard Wagner’s opera Tannhöizer. Later, he performed the parts of Obert and Oronte in Georg Friedrich Händel’s opera Alcina. The early successful singer completed acting studies in Linz and studied solo singing with prof. Utas Schwabe at the Vienna Private University of Music and Arts. From 2023 continues his master’s studies at the London Royal Academy of Music with prof. Michael Chance.

Today, the 29-year-old A. Mühlbacher’s repertoire includes GFHändel’s operas “Alčina” and “Rinaldas”, Wolfram Wagner’s “Mary Magdalene”, Johann Sebastian Bach’s oratorio “Passion according to Matthew” and other works of church music. At the beginning of this year, the soloist sang Obert in the production of the opera “Alčina” at La Scala in Milan. He also tours with various early music ensembles performing programs of works by JSBach, GFHändel, Georg Philipp Telemann and Antonio Vivaldi.

“Per Pisendel” and other masterpieces of A. Vivaldi

Cappella Concertante Vilnense – Orchestra, 2022 assembled from the artists of the LNOBT symphony orchestra. Delving into the traditions of baroque music performance, they delight the audience with several new performances every year.

Dimitris Karakantas, a violinist of Greek origin, will perform for the fifth time together with the LNOBT baroque orchestra “Cappella Concertante Vilnense”. Orchestra artists Bernardas Petrauskas (violin) and Roma Jaraminaitė (cello) will also play solo with the orchestra.

“This time we will present to Vilnius residents an impressive program dedicated to one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era, Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). In collaboration with the extremely talented young Austrian countertenor A. Mühlbacher, we will immerse ourselves in the art of the motet with “Nisi Dominus” and “Ascende læta” and contrasting arias from various operas of A. Vivaldi.

To complement the vocal works, we chose three powerful instrumental works by the same composer. Concert d-dock for two violins, cello and strings RV 565 is one of the best compositions for several soloists, and the highly virtuoso Per Pisendel (Concerto d-hard RV 205, dedicated to the author’s friend, the great German violinist and composer Johann Georg Pisendel) and Concerto E minor RV 278 perfectly represents A. Vivaldi’s favorite genre – the violin concerto”, D. Karakantas, who will conduct the Cappella Concertante Vilnense orchestra, presents the program of the performance.

in 1987 born in Larissa, Greece, the violinist graduated from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, studied baroque violin at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar and the Mozarteum University of Salzburg. Having won first prizes in many national and international competitions, D. Karakantas began his career performing as a soloist with various baroque and contemporary music orchestras. Since 2015 he is the artistic director, soloist and concertmaster of the Orchestra 1756 in Salzburg. In order to build musical bridges between eras, in 2018 D. Karakantas founded the youth orchestra “Nuovo Barocco”.
