Kick-off on the 25th of January
The kick-off for this year’s marathon will take place on January 25th in Linz’s Oberbank Donau Forum. Toni Innauer, Olympic ski jumping champion, former successful coach and author, focuses on one topic: How do I manage to turn my good intentions into sustainable habits? He then takes part in a talk with Upper Austria’s Athlete of the Year 2023, Susanne Gogl-Walli, and OÖN presenter Karoline Ploberger. Admission is free, registration on www.linzmarathon.at he wishes.
“Super Friday” on February 16th
On this day, in the Linz Tips Arena, which also hosts the expo on the marathon weekend, there will once once more be an opportunity to test the latest models from well-known brands during the running shoe test in collaboration with Intersport Winninger. These can also be tried out on the hall’s running track. Experts will be happy to advise you, and a running and movement analysis from Arion can also be carried out. In collaboration with the Endurance Center Austria, a lactate test is also possible. There will also be a Guglwald running meeting on February 16th.
Closing dates in February and March
The first deadline for entries for the 22nd edition has already passed on December 21st, but registration can still take place until February 1st and March 15th under more favorable conditions than for late entries. Those who decide late have the opportunity to get their start number for the running spectacle on Friday and Saturday in the Tips Arena. “Anyone who reports early has the further advantage of having a clear goal in mind,” says marathon race director Günther Weidlinger.
Weekly running meetings
Running, with inline skates or hand bikes – to optimally prepare for the Linz Donau Marathon, running meetings take place every week in the company of experienced coaches such as former top runner Gerhard Hartmann and race director Günther Weidlinger as well as sports doctors. All dates can be found at www.linzmarathon.at. On March 9th, Fischer Brot, which provides the marathon rolls for the races, delivers the food. On this day, the skaters will also complete their first practice session on the Urfahrmarkt site.
New competitions in the program
With the new five-kilometer competition, there is one less excuse not to register this year. In 2024, the Linz Running Festival will also be regarding inclusion: for the first time, there will be a competition for people with mental disabilities with the 1st Special Olympics Run on Saturday. This takes place together with the Junior Marathon, and at a new location. The start is on the New Railway Bridge for the first time, and the little ones get a running route in the Donaupark.
