Madrid, March 15 (EFE).- The Government will agree at its meeting this Tuesday to join the initiative to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin before the International Criminal Court so that “this war does not come out for free”, assured the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.
In an interview on Telecinco, Albares has also pointed out that the decision to send more weapons to Ukraine “has already been made with European partners” and has been convinced that all members of the Government, including those of United We Can, are “cohesive ” in this matter.
“The Government’s decision has been made and all the Government’s partners are united, all the political forces”, assured the minister, for whom “the objective is to ensure that Ukraine continues to live in peace”.
Also on the table is the need to study an increase in defense spending to reach 2 percent of GDP, a reflection that in the face of the Russian threat and aggression “becomes more evident and necessary” and towards which “we must go walking purposefully.”
Asked regarding the presence of Spaniards in Ukraine, the minister assured that there are still 30 people left who had the first opportunity to leave and decided to stay, and for whom it is now practically impossible to carry out an exfiltration operation”, but with whom the ministry is in daily contact.
“As soon as the minimum conditions are met, we will go to get them out,” he assured.
Albares, who later this followingnoon will travel to Moldova and Poland to see first-hand the situation of the refugees, explained that this Monday he spoke with his Chinese counterpart whom he asked to “use his good influence” on Russia and Putin to “get peace to come as soon as possible and that in no way can this war be fed”.
