The Council of Judges will decide on the suspension of Kaunas judge V. Yegorovienė’s powers

The chairman of the court, Arūnas Purvainis, requests to suspend the powers of the judge once morest V. Jegoroviene, who has been reprimanded twice for disciplinary violations, and currently a third disciplinary case has been opened.

A.Purvainis submitted a request to the Council of Judges to hold an extraordinary meeting on March 7. This matter was scheduled to be decided last Thursday, but the meeting was postponed.

As A. Purvainis stated in a comment transmitted to BNS last week, he made the request taking into account the fact that V. Jegorovienė’s behavior following the third disciplinary case brought on November 10 “not only did not change and did not improve, but only got worse and worse”.

According to A.Purvainis, complaints from parties to proceedings, their defenders, secretaries of hearings, other institutions, and notaries are constantly received due to V. Jegorovienė’s activities.

“We have cases when the cases are not examined, but are delayed, unrelated circumstances are explained in them, there are also cases when the judge starts to cancel the previously adopted and already binding decisions. Recently, a trend has been observed that complaints are increasing, not only that, more and more applicants are coming to the reception with verbal complaints regarding the behavior of this judge”, said the chairman of the Kaunas district court.

The Ethics and Disciplinary Commission of Judges filed a third disciplinary case once morest V. Yegorovieni last November due to repeated inappropriate behavior and proposed to initiate procedures for an immediate medical examination of the judge.

As the National Administration of Courts reported at the time, the commission found that V. Jegorovienė did not comply with the ethical requirements of judges when communicating with staff in the working environment: she was incorrect, she accused court employees and other persons of unfounded things, such behavior was not a one-time occurrence.

At the beginning of March, the Council of Judges appealed to President Gitanas Nausėdas with a request to suspend the powers of Vilnius City District Court judge Dainius Grizickas due to negligent work and other work deficiencies. After the president suspended his powers, the judge asked to be voluntarily dismissed from office.
