In 1963, the launch by Chevrolet of the second generation Corvette, the C2, following the first model of 1953, unleashed passions and exploded its sales by 50% in one year!
As much as the very first Corvette, the C1 of 1953, was a festival of voluptuous and charming curves which competed with the beautiful English ones.
On the other hand, when it was released in 1963, this C2 Stingray displayed the wicked, bestial and angular look of a warrior ready to fire its three domed missiles emerging from the surface of the hood with a very flat line!
It owed its nickname of Stingray (ray with spur) to its aggressive shape and its central spur on the roof which continued by cutting in two the rear window to end in point on the trunk.
Like a ray fin!
As for its big 5.4-liter to 7-liter V8s, they will propel the Stingrays to the podiums in races and will make the Corvette the emblematic American sports car…
