The nasal spray is often the emergency remedy when you have a stuffy nose in the event of a cold or allergies. Most people now know that the duration of its use should not be spread over too long a period because of a risk of addiction. But did you know that you are definitely not using it correctly?
Many videos are currently circulating on TikTok, in which their authors explain the correct way to use nasal spray. Because, it is not a question of spraying it vertically in the nostril, before sniffing a good blow.
Rather, as doctor dr.foodallergy explains, tilt your head slightly forward, insert the nozzle of the spray into the nostril, and then rotate it slightly outward, i.e. towards the sinuses.
Immediately after spraying, you must avoid sniffing strongly, at the risk of swallowing the liquid, the action of which would then be null. It is best to take short, quick breaths in through your nose, without forcing it, much like a dog sniffing. If, after a few seconds, the remaining liquid flows out of the nostril, just blow your nose and you’re done.
The evidence that indicates that you have misused your nasal spray so far is the fact that the product is not working as it should. Or that your nose is quickly irritated and tends to bleed. Another telltale sign of misuse is having the taste of the spray in your mouth after spraying it. Indeed, this proves that the liquid did not go to the sinuses, where it is supposed to act, but that it flowed directly into the pharynx.
