The Controversy Surrounding “Small Cappuccino’s” Disrespectful Comment about Former Saudi Minister, Ghazi Al-Qusaibi

A social media celebrity in Saudi Arabia angered his compatriots when he spoke about a late Saudi minister, ambassador and writer, describing him as a “coffee maker” before his appointment to the post.

Users of social platforms in Saudi Arabia circulated a short video clip of “Small Cappuccino”, who is a well-known figure on “Snapchat”, in which he said, “I expect, if I am disappointed, that this is Al-Qasibi. He was my coffee maker and became a minister.”

His real name was Small Cappuccino. Saad Al-EneziHe meant the late Saudi minister, Ghazi Al-Qusaibi.

When the clip was published, one of the tweeters commented on Twitter, directing his words to “Small Cappuccino”, saying, “And you, what do you have?” after enumerating the positions and qualifications that the Saudi minister enjoyed.

The “Small Cappuccino” comment angered many of his followers, and other commenters on Twitter and Facebook, where the video was widely re-shared.

And one of the commentators wrote in a tweet on Twitter, “His Excellency Dr. Ghazi Al-Qusaibi, may God have mercy on him, from an ancient family and known for science, thought and literature.”

Then she continued, “The job of the coffee shop, as I mentioned with sarcasm, is not a defect. It is cleaner and more refined than what you do, such as electronic begging and an insult to a person whom God has honored.”

For his part, a commentator named Faisal Al-Muhanna wrote, “Al-Qusaibi is a grandfather from an ancient and well-known family, and Ghazi in his person is a global, not a local, stature.”

Then he continued, “It is a great Saudi product that society and people loved with its knowledge, literature, politics, and sincerity.”

Commentator Bakhit Al-Zahrani described “Small Cappuccino” as a liar and said in a tweet, “You lied.”

Then he continued, “What is the fault of my coffee? The fault is that you lied about a man, a doctor, a poet, a writer, and an ambassador. He worked at King Saud University in Riyadh, and he worked as a minister for two ministries, Industry and Electricity, and the Ministry of Health.”

After that, Al-Zahrani apologized in his name to the Al-Qusaibi family for what appeared in the video, and said, “I apologize for your words that I said about Dr. Ghazi, a defect and a thousand defects that falsify information about him.”

For his part, Muhammad al-Khayari, another commenter on Twitter, said, “The difference between chandeliers and chandeliers… is not an atom of what the late Ghazi al-Qusaibi did.”

Who is Ghazi Algosaibi?

Al-Gosaibi, the former Saudi Minister of Labor, was a diplomat and a liberal writer, as Agence France-Presse wrote about him when the news of his death was published on August 5, 2010.

Al-Qusaibi died at the age of seventy, after a long struggle with illness, and left behind a good reputation among his compatriots.

Algosaibi was highly regarded by the progressive forces in Saudi Arabia for his boldness in addressing the problems of conservative Saudi society.

He was born on March 3, 1940 in Hofuf, to a wealthy family of merchants.

After spending his first years in Al-Ahsa (East), he moved to Manama, Bahrain, to continue his studies.

He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Cairo University, then a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Southern California.

As for his doctorate in international relations, he obtained it from the University of London, and his thesis was on Yemen, as he explained in his famous book, “A Life in Management.”

Ghazi Al-Qusaibi worked as director of the General Corporation for Railways in the seventies before he took over the Ministry of Industry and launched the Saudi petrochemical industries sector.
