The withdrawal of the distribution certificate from the film “Aita” directed by Stepan Burnashev is associated with a negative reaction to the film from viewers and their complaints. This was stated by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova at the government hour in the State Duma, Interfax reports.
According to her, in Russian society “they are sensitive to any mention of the very topic of interethnic hatred.”

“Initially, the film, which received a distribution certificate and was screened at festivals (…) and was presented in Russian cinemas, when it appeared on online platforms, it caused a very sharply negative reaction on social networks, hundreds of appeals were sent from people who saw the film a little differently “- said Lyubimova.
Lyubimova claims that the ministry held meetings with the creators of the film. She did not say what exactly was discussed at them.
“We will continue to work together and try to make topics that can cause such irritation in modern society more tactful,” the minister concluded.
The plot of the film “Aita” is built around the death of a Yakut schoolgirl, in which a Russian policeman is suspected of involvement, which is why they want to carry out lynching on him.
The film’s distribution certificate was issued in February 2022; the film collected regarding 27 million rubles in Russian cinemas, becoming the highest-grossing Yakut film in history. In September 2023, it became known that the Ministry of Culture had revoked the film’s distribution certificate. Shortly before this, “Aita” was removed from all major streaming services at the request of Roskomnadzor. The department said that it found in the film “destructive information that contradicts the principles of the unity of the peoples of Russia.” RKN argued that in the film “the positive aspects of the heroes of one nationality are contrasted with the emphatically negative traits of the heroes of another nationality.”
