The campaign team of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris accused her Republican rival Donald Trump on Saturday of “playing games” with the date of their debate, after the tycoon said he had already “agreed” with Fox News for September 4.
Trump “has not kept his word” and has unilaterally changed the date and location of the presidential debate, said Michael Tyler, Harris’s communications director. On Friday night, the Republican tycoon wrote on his Truth Social network that he had agreed with Fox News to debate Harris on September 4, hours after the vice president secured the necessary votes to be designated the Democratic Party candidate for the November presidential election. Trump “must stop his games” and respect what was previously agreed with President Joe Biden when he was the Democratic candidate for the White House, consequently appearing “on September 10 on ABC,” Tyler said.
“I’ll be there on September 10th. I look forward to seeing you,” the Democratic candidate herself said on social media X on Saturday.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung had earlier said Harris was “too scared to agree to a debate before” the originally scheduled date, accompanying his message with an emoji showing a chicken.
According to Trump, the debate on Fox News, a channel with a conservative reputation, would be held in Pennsylvania and in front of an audience.
The US election campaign was turned upside down last month when Biden, 81, amid growing concerns about his health, dropped his bid for re-election and endorsed Harris.

Her decision to withdraw came after her June debate against Trump on CNN, which was disastrous for Biden. A second Trump-Biden debate was scheduled for Sept. 10 on ABC. That debate was initially expected to go ahead, with Harris replacing Biden, but a Trump spokesman said last week that it would be “inappropriate” to schedule it before the vice president was formally the Democratic nominee.
Trump, 78, initially said he would not debate Harris. The 59-year-old former district attorney and California attorney general challenged Trump last month to debate her head-to-head. “As the saying goes, if you have something to say, say it to my face,” she said at a campaign rally in Atlanta. Fox News confirmed the debate would have spectators and follow similar rules to CNN’s June 27 debate between Trump and Biden.
