Asked about online media Zinneke.tv, regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Brussels MP Fouad Ahidar (Vooruit) and president of the Flemish Parliament of the Flemish Community in Brussels (VGC), made particularly challenging remarks. In this video broadcast this November 5 on Youtube, the Flemish socialist compared Israel’s action to the genocide of the Jews during World War II. “I think everyone can see that this is a human genocide. I can use this term. I, who went to Auschwitz, in Poland, to see what a genocide is, what a massacre is, I can see today that we use practically the same methods (in Gaza). Simply with sophisticated means to massacre populations by the thousands.”

Later in this video, the presenter of the show, Youssef Rouas, projects on the screen for several minutes extremely harsh images of Palestinian victims during the second intifada.
The Hamas attack of October 7: A “small response” to Israel
Fouad Ahidar, Vooruit MP and group leader in the Brussels Parliament, then assures that Israel has, for 75 years, “done everything to eradicate this Palestinian population”. He specifies that “every human being deserves to live”, but that Israelis “reap what they sow”. He then compares the terrorist attack perpetrated on October 7 “to a small response which was given by part of Hamas”, regretting that “unfortunately, the world only looks at this part”.
Fouad Ahidar, who will be a candidate in the 2024 elections in Jette, is still a member of Vooruit. However, he was ejected from the office of the Flemish Socialist Party for refusing to vote, in the Brussels Parliament, on the obligation to stun animals before slaughter, in opposition to Vooruit’s line.

Contacted by La Libre, Vooruit ensures that he “distances himself” from the comments of his deputy.
“Vooruit condemns all forms of violence. Both the horror committed by the terrorist organization Hamas and the violence committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. We stand with the innocent victims and call for a humanitarian ceasefire,” underlines the spokesperson for Conner Rousseau, president of Vooruit.
