Mocked or criticized, the dress that designer Maël Charton designed to dress Miss Lorraine during the Miss France evening, earned him a lot of comments, sometimes violent.
This is the most talked regarding outfit of the evening. The table-shaped dress, created by Maël Charton and worn by Miss Lorraine on the evening of the Miss France 2024 election, sparked many reactions, often funny but sometimes also cruel.
“I suspected that it was going to be interesting, but I didn’t think it would arouse so much nastiness. Humor, that’s for sure, I knew there was going to be some, that’s not all the days that we see a table dress”, underlines Maël Charton, for whom it has been “a bit of a roller coaster” since Saturday evening.
“Violent and disproportionate” attacks
Because if on the evening of the ceremony, the young 26-year-old designer was the first to rejoice at the numerous memes that flourished on social networks, he quickly became disillusioned.
“Internet users have a lot of humor and I was the first to laugh regarding it, because I am full of second degree and self-deprecation, also regarding my work.”
But by digging a little, Maël Charton discovers “nastier things” and personal, violent and disproportionate attacks.
Some speak of “humiliation, shame” for Miss Lorraine. The stylist says he received “insults in public and even in private, because people didn’t stop at a few comments, they also came directly to my private social networks to continue insulting me.”
“I find it super funny what he did”
Miss Lorraine, who also took the matter with humor, even launching a meme competition on her Instagram account, had to defend Maël Charton. “I find it super funny what he did,” she tells Moselle TV. “Where I disagree is when I see comments that say it was humiliating, sexist, it’s completely far-fetched to say that.”
Maël Charton had imagined three outfits. The first, inspired by Geneviève de Fontenay, and who passed away this year. “I told myself that it would have been a nice tribute, given that she was born in Lorraine.” The other dress was inspired by Baccarat crystalworks, “which is a big symbol of the Lorraine region.”
Three projects
“I did research on Lorraine in many areas, know-how, public figures, history,” recalls the stylist originally from Lorraine and adopted Parisian.

The third outfit, the one chosen by the Miss France committee, was a tribute to gastronomy.
“I discovered that the late Jean-Pierre Coffe was also from Lorraine. It made me think of the Lorraine region which was very dear to him, and it made me want to imagine this cook who presented us with all the dishes that she had cooked on her restaurant table. All in one, so to speak!”
“It was really important to me to do something original, something that would stand out, but that would really pay homage to Lorraine.”
