This turtle ship was built in 2011.
Gyeongsangnam-do invested 1.6 billion won to restore the original shape.
However, the representative of the production company was arrested as it turned out to be a so-called “fake turtle ship” in which 81% of imported wood was used instead of Geumgang pine.
The Turtle Ship was moved to the coastal waters of Geoje Island to be used as a tourist resource, but the water leaked and was unbalanced.
A year later, it was moved back to the mainland, but it rotted and crumbled in the rain and wind for 10 years.
In the end, the city of Geoje decided to sell it, and following 7 unsuccessful bids, the bid was won at 1.54 million won in May.
However, the successful bidder might not find a way to move the turtle ship, so he gave up the contract and went through dismantling procedures.

″We judged the value of recycling because of its great symbolism, but in the end, the city decided to demolish it because of safety concerns and management.″
The amount dismantled this time alone amounts to 112 tons.
The timber will be sent to the thermal power plant, and the steel parts will be sold to a junk dealer for 1.4 million won.
The dismantling of the Turtle Ship, which is 6 meters high and 25 meters long, is expected to be completed within 2 to 3 days.
