The Constitutional Court (MK) has received 278 applications for disputes over General Election results (PHPU). The dispute application will be reviewed first by the Constitutional Court before being heard.
“We need to study this first, we dissect it and we map it out so that then the application can be linear with the case,” said MK spokesperson, Fajar Laksono, Monday (25/3).
The details of the 278 applications consist of two disputes over the presidential election, 91 disputes over the results of the DPR/DPRD legislative elections submitted by individuals, 173 disputes over the results of the DPR/DPRD legislative elections submitted by political parties and 12 disputes over the results of the DPD legislative elections.
Fajar explained that registration for the assignment of legislative election case numbers was postponed while waiting for the presidential election dispute decision to be read out.
The postponement of case registration is an effort by the Constitutional Court to avoid being pressed for trial time and to focus on the presidential election first.
Because, according to the provisions, legislative election dispute lawsuits must be decided within 30 working days from the time they are registered. Meanwhile for the presidential election, the time is 14 working days.
Fajar confirmed that the Constitutional Court would complete the PHPU first. After the new presidential election, there was a dispute over the legislative election. The PHPU presidential election session is planned to start on March 27. “If you count 14 working days, we will have the decision on the presidential election on April 22,” said Fajar.
