The Connection Between Past Infectious Viral Diseases and Cancer: What You Need to Know

Russian doctors note that some past infectious viral diseases can provoke cancer. In total, today there are regarding ten of them. This was reported by specialists from the Russian Scientific Center for Surgery named following Academician B.V. Petrovsky.

“Today, it is a proven fact that some types of cancer are associated with previously suffered infectious and viral diseases – there are already more than a dozen of them,” Andrey Biryukov, head of the reference center for viral and infectious oncopathology at the Petrovsky Research Center for Surgery, emphasized in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta. The specialist named several main diseases that can cause cancer. These are, for example, hepatitis B and C viruses, which lead to liver cancer. Cervical cancer, as well as neoplasms affecting the head and neck, can be caused by the human papillomavirus. The herpes virus and HIV diseases can also cause cancer. These are just a few of them.

Not only past illnesses, but also other factors can lead to cancer. Important in this regard is human lifestyle in general, oncologists note. Bad habits and household chemicals are one of the factors in the occurrence of corresponding diseases.
