The condition of the seriously injured baby in Klaipėda is critical: he is in a coma

Professor Rimantas Kėvalas, the head of Kaunas Clinic’s Pediatric Clinic, assured the lrytas.lt portal that the baby’s condition is critical.

According to him, at the moment, due to the child’s condition, it is not possible to perform an operation – vital functions are supported by medical equipment and medicines.

On Saturday morning, a baby with multiple injuries was brought by medics from Laukininkų Street. According to preliminary data, the baby was thrown out of the window on the first floor by his father, a 25-year-old man.

The barely 5-month-old baby was first taken to the Klaipėda Children’s Hospital, where he was resuscitated.

Doctors from the port city actively consulted with their colleagues from Kaunas.

On Sunday, the baby was taken to Kaunas clinics.

“The child was brought a little after lunch in a particularly serious condition, having suffered multiple head injuries and injuries to the body and internal organs. The condition was approaching critical. However, we managed to stabilize it,” said Linas Mikelis, the temporary head of the resuscitation department, on Monday in Klaipėda.

According to him, it seems that the baby suffered injuries not only from falling. He could have been beaten. All this will be investigated by experts.

On Monday, the baby’s father was remanded in custody for fourteen days. He is currently being treated in a psychiatric hospital. When he leaves the hospital and is able to participate in the court session himself, the pretrial detention will be decided again.

The 25-year-old man has two convictions in his biography. He was convicted for the first time when he and a friend beat a homeless man to death when he was only fourteen. He committed the second crime as soon as he was released from prison. Then he came to the attention of law enforcement due to damage to other people’s property.
