In Dakar, a pan-African concert for term limits is supposed to take place this Saturday, September 17 at the Radisson Blu hotel. But the prefecture of Dakar has still not given its authorization for the holding of this event.
This event, coordinated by Tournons la page, is part of an awareness campaign on term limits. A campaign that aims to promote democracy and raise awareness on the issues of good governance and democratic change on the continent.
Eleven artists from seven countries, such as the Senegalese rapper Didier Awadi or the Ivorian Meiway, should in principle perform on stage on Saturday evening. But problem: the prefecture of Dakar has still not given its authorization for the holding of this concert, which despairs David Dosseh, of Tournons la page. ” We are really worried since, not having had the authorization of the prefecture, we are not able to deploy our logistics at the level of the room planned for the concert. This surprises us, because, for us, Senegal is still a model of democracy and that is why we naturally chose Senegal to organize this great pan-African citizen concert to strengthen democracy. We don’t really have an explanation. We have here in Dakar been in contact with personalities. And so, we are surprised that less than 48 hours from the event, we still do not have a positive response. These are just civil society associations, artists who want to meet to do a concert, nothing subversive. We do not get involved in the political affairs of Senegal. We have already organized actions of this kind in Cotonou, it was last year, in the presence of President Patrice Talon. This year, in Botswana, in the presence of President Mokgweetsi Masisi. And we are really surprised that, so far, it has been a very heavy silence that has been presented in response to our request ».
