The President of the Republic, Head of State, HE Mr. Mohamed Bazoum, received on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the President of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), Mr. Abdoulaye Diop.
Mr. Diop came to inform the President of Niger, current President of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of UEMOA, of the activities, in Niamey, of the Interparliamentary Committee (IPC) of the union.
The President of the Commission held Tuesday morning, in the Nigerien capital, a meeting with the CIP to share with its members the concerns of the deputies, the populations and the actors of the economic and social life of the union, has-t- he indicates.
“We have reported all these concerns to President Mohamed Bazoum to better chart the roadmap we will work on during his tenure,” Diop said.
The discussions focused on major issues related to the economic situation in the sub-region and concerns relating to sectoral policies, he said.
“We also discussed the issue of the free movement of goods and people which particularly interested the President. We discussed this point at length in order to find possible solutions so that the member countries of the union can obtain supplies regularly and at a lower cost,” continued Mr. Diop.
The two personalities identified “the avenues on which Niger is working so that this situation can find a lasting solution”, said the President of the Commission.
The context of peace and security prevailing in the sub-region were also at the center of the meeting, he added.
“We thanked President Mohamed Bazoum for all the actions he has taken over the recent period and which have given, in terms of sub-regional geopolitical activities, very satisfactory results”, concluded the President of the Commission of the WAEMU.
