Wearing a mask becomes compulsory once more at the University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM) and in the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal establishments.

This instruction to staff and visitors came into effect on Friday in all facilities of the CIUSSS of West-Central Montreal (including the Jewish General Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital), according to a memo sent to employees.

And it will take effect Monday at CHUM, given the levels of circulation of the COVID-19 virus, an increasingly significant presence of respiratory viruses as well as the increase in the number of positive employees, a reflection of community contaminationindicates another internal message.

This instruction is valid in patient rooms and treatment areas. The management of CHUM said he wanted avoid contamination of the hospital population.

On September 20, the CIUSSS from Estrie-CHUS announced to its staff the return of compulsory mask wearing in its facilities.

On Wednesday, the five hospitals in Quebec were observing these directives, while other establishments were considering them.

In April, the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) announced that it no longer required the wearing of face coverings in healthcare establishments, leaving the choice to those who wish to wear one. The Ministry of Health, however, recalled that these establishments might reimpose the wearing of masks if the epidemiological situation deteriorated in their facilities.
