There are a few quick tips to improve Pokémon Scarlet and Violet performance issues before jumping into trades, but the first thing to do to improve gameplay is to make sure you’ve updated Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to the last version.
Here are the Pokémon that evolve by trading in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet:

- Scyther + Metal Coat – Scizor.
- Slowpoke + Kings Rock – Slowking.

Some Pokemon must be holding a particular item to trigger their evolution. Once you give the following Pokémon the corresponding items, you will need to level them up once to evolve them.
- Applin: Sweet apple = Appleton OR Sour apple = Flapple.
You can buy the sweet apple or the tart apple at Delibird Presents.
- Charcadet: Auspicious Armor = Armarogue OU Malicious Armor = Ceruledge.
You can get these items by completing the side quest in Zapapico where an NPC asks for 10 Sinistea Tokens. Auspicious Armor is unique to Pokémon Scarlet, and Malicious Armor is unique to Pokémon Purple.
- Gimmighoul: 999 pieces of Gimmighoul = Gholdengo.
You can collect Gimmighoul Coins by finding hidden Gimmighouls in Paldea, or by catching or battling Gimmighoul Chests.
- to believe: Antique Version + Chipped Pot = Poltageist OR Bogus Version + Cracked Pot = Poltageist.
You can tell if your Sinistea is a Phony or Antique version by checking its Pokédex entry or looking for a blue sticker on the bottom of the cup. If the blue sticker is present, your Sinistea is an Antique. You can get chipped or cracked pots from the auction house or by finding them during your adventures.
Pokémon that evolve by learning a certain move in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Some Pokemon need to learn a certain move to evolve. If you failed to teach your Pokemon its evolution move at that time, you can re-teach it from your Pokemon’s summary menu.
- Bonsly + Mimic (level 16) = Sudowoodo.
- Dunsparce + Hyper Drill (level 32) = Dudunsparce.
- Eevee + high friendship level + any fairy move = Sylveon.
- Girafarig + Double spoke (level 32) = Farigraph.
- First + use Rage Fist 20 times in combat = Annihilap.
- Steenee + Stomp (level 28) Remember.
If you’ve re-taught your Pokemon any of these moves, level it up once to trigger its evolution.
Pokémon that evolve at a certain time of day in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
If you’re having trouble evolving a certain Pokémon, you may need to evolve it at a particular time of day. Many of these Pokémon may also need another variable to trigger their evolution.
- Eevee + Friendship + Day = Espeon OR Night = Umbreon.
- Fromantis + Level 34 + Day = Lurantis.
- Greavard + Level 30 + Night = Houndstone.
- Happiny + Oval stone + Day + a higher level = Chansey.
- Riolu + Friendship + Day = Lucario.
- Rockruff + Level 25 + Day = Midday Form.
- Rockruff + Level 25 + Night = Midnight Form.
- Rockruff + Level 25 + Proper Tempo Ability + Night = Twilight Form.
- Sligo + Level 51 + Rain = Goodra.
- Sneasel + Razor Claw item + Night = Weaville.
- Yungoos + Level 20 + Day = Gumshoos.
If you’ve reached the time of day needed to evolve one of the Pokemon above, but aren’t close to reaching the next level, give your Pokemon an EXP candy to get it to the next level. higher level works just as well.
Pokémon that evolve by friendship in Pokémon Red and Purple
The following Pokémon need a high friendship level to evolve.
- Azurill – Marill.
- Chansey – Blissey.
- Eevee – Espeon or Umbreon or Sylveon.
- Igglybuff – Jiglypuff.
- pichu “Pikachu.
- Riolu – Lucario.
Once these Pokémon’s Friendship Level is high enough, they will need to level up once more to trigger their evolution. You can increase a Pokémon’s Friendship Level by battling with it, carrying it in your party, walking with it using the Let’s Go feature, and making sure it doesn’t die in battle.
Pokémon that evolve using the “Let’s Go” feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet games introduced a whole new form of evolution using the Let’s Go feature. This feature can also be used to hatch eggs to breed Pokemon or when you’re treasure hunting in Pokemon Scarlet and Purple. You can walk around with the first Pokémon in your party by pressing the R button while in the overworld. Once you have walked enough with the following Pokémon, they will evolve when they next level up.

You must take at least 1000 steps with these Pokémon. It’s not difficult, but it should be uninterrupted steps. This means that if you get into a fight or your Pokemon goes back to its Poké Ball for any reason, the counter is reset and you have to start all over once more.
