As lieutenant colonel L. Idzelis said in the organization’s press release, the Rifles Union has a unique role in preparing Lithuanians for unarmed civil resistance, strengthening society’s resilience.
“We have signed a cooperation agreement and are working together with the specialists of the Department of Mobilization and Civil Resistance of the Ministry of National Defense, so soon we will start preparing civil resistance training for the public,” said the union leader.
In addition to the activity report, L. Idzelis will also propose to the congress to approve the activity strategy of the Lithuanian Rifle Association – the 10-year vision of the organization’s development, which was approved by the Government this week.
The strategy covering the period 2024-2035 defines three directions of activity of the Riflemen’s Union: strengthening and development of the union, contribution to strengthening state defense, crisis management and civil safety, and increasing public resistance and will to resist.
The congress delegates will also consider and approve the improved statute of the Riflemen’s Union, which regulates the structure of the organization, the procedure for forming units, appointing commanders, accepting individuals, riflemen’s uniforms, and other elements.
L. Idzelis started leading the organization in April 2023 by the Government’s resolution. According to the law of the Lithuanian Rifle Association, the commander is appointed for four years.
