For cats too, the path to a comfortable weight is full of challenges. 17-kilo cat Kroshik from Perm (Russia) learns this the hard way. He doesn’t get very far in his attempt to escape from the diet camp.

The heavy burden of love

Kroshik, Russian for “crumb”, previously lived as a mascot in a hospital, where he was pampered, caressed and, above all, fed lavishly every day. “The love for the cat went so far that he was overfed until he could hardly move…”reports his carer Ekaterina Bedakova on Instagram. At 17 kilograms, the cat is in a critical condition and urgently needs to lose weight.

Escape attempt in the shoe rack

The plan now includes strict diet and fitness measures, including a water treadmill to protect his joints. But the bumblebee doesn’t seem to like the new program very much. “Kroshik caused a stir today because he ran away,” Bedakova said recently on Telegram.

But his escape attempt goes anything but smoothly: The cat gets stuck in the shoe rack, his face buried in a blue Croc. “He was very angry when we found him hanging in his slippers – but after a portion of food he calmed down again.”

The fight against the kilos

After Kroshik is freed from his predicament, the weight loss program continues. And it shows initial success: With a weight of now 15.4 kilograms, he has already lost some weight. “His frustration with the diet shows us that he is actually a very active guy,” says Bedakova. “Kroshik is an example of extraordinary dedication and perseverance. He is fighting his way back to a healthier life and we are all proud of him!” (nha)
