A press release announced that the manga written and illustrated by Subaruichi, Yuusha ga Shinda !: Murabito no Ore ga Hotta Otoshiana ni Yuusha ga Ochita Kekka (The Legendary Hero Is Dead!), will have an anime adaptation that will be released in 2023 in Japan. The statement confirmed the production details and voice cast of the project.

Subaruichi manga publication began through digital service Manga ONE from the publisher Shogakukan in December 2014, and ended it in December 2020 with a total of twenty published compilation volumes. This is the first and only registered work of the author, and one of the few cases in which a finished work is adapted to anime (Generally, the objective of an adaptation is to boost the sales of the original work, and this normally applies to works in publication, not finished.).
Production team
- Rion Kujou (Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica, Asu no Yoichi !, Gunjou no Magmell, Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai!) is in charge of directing the anime at the studios LIDEN FILMScounting on the production of WOWMAX.
- Wataru Kato will play the protagonist Touka Scott, while Shunichi Toki will play Shion Bladearts.

Far to the north of the world is the Gate of Hell, a portal once used by the Demon Lord to invade the human realm. Thanks to legendary hero Shion Bladearts, wielder of Excalibur, and his loyal band of companions, the Gate was sealed and the demonic threat defeated. Unfortunately, the seal was incomplete and has begun to weaken, allowing the demons to attack once more. Concerned for the safety of his village, selfish and perverted farmer Touka Scott digs booby traps to fend off demons. But fear not, because Shion is on his way to close the Gate of Hell once more and save humanity.
Or at least he was, because the legendary hero is dead, having fallen into one of the traps Touka dug. Luckily, dealing with the dead is necromancer Anri Haynesworth’s specialty. Although she cannot revive him, she Anri can at least save her mission by forcing Touka’s soul into Shion’s rotting body and dragging him to the Hell Gate in her place. Yuna Yunis, Touka’s childhood friend, doesn’t want to be left behind and goes with her. Together, the three set off as the most unsuited group to try and save the world.
