Faced with the increase in cases and hospitalizations, the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) is asking the government to speed up the vaccination campaign and to take rapid measures to penalize unvaccinated people.

In an open letter, the president of the CMQ, Mauril Gaudreault called for more measures to limit the number of contacts between those who continue to refuse the vaccine.
He also wants to see the vaccine passport quickly be extended to more shops and public places.
“The vaccinated population can no longer suffer in silence from the constraints of health measures while unvaccinated people occupy one in two beds in short term and the majority of beds in intensive care”, writes Mauril Gaudreault.
“The overload of hospitalizations and the load shedding deprive thousands and thousands of patients of an endlessly postponed surgical intervention, further deteriorating in some cases their state of health,” he adds.
The College of Physicians also returned to the charge on Twitter on Saturday, mentioning that “it is paradoxical that there is a curfew and that hospitals are overwhelmed, but that non-essential places are open to all” .
It is ironic that there is a curfew and hospitals are overwhelmed, but non-essential places are open to everyone. Our mission is the protection of the public. We therefore ask for a tightening of measures limiting contact between vaccinated and non-vaccinated.

In addition, Mauril Gaudreault believes that Quebec can and must accelerate the administration of the third dose of vaccine.
As last spring, health professionals are ready to put their shoulders to the wheel and contribute to the vaccination campaign, supports the president of the CMQ.
“We are also inviting all physicians and residents affected by the current offloading in hospitals to volunteer,” says Mr. Gaudreault.
In addition, the College of Physicians is also asking the government to be more transparent and consistent in its communication with the population. According to the CMQ, the directives concerning screening, rapid tests and the period of isolation sow confusion among citizens.
Mauril Gaudreault also asks that all measures be announced at government press briefings, rather than seeing certain elements leaked in the media.
Recall that the vaccination campaign for the 3rd dose should accelerate in the coming days while the army has been deployed to come as reinforcements in the province and that the date of appointment for the population over 18 years old has been advanced.
Quebec also announced this week that the vaccine passport will be requested at the entrance of SAQ and SQDC points of sale from January 18.
