The Cold Note | DIARY OF THE ANDES: 46 years of LIFE

Today, August 24th, around 4:30 in the afternoon, Diario de Los Andes celebrates 46 years of LIFEemphasis on LIFE.

Margareth Wheatley says about LIFE: «Life is an experiment to discover what is possible. Life is not survival, it is invention… The reason life is organized is so that more life can flourish.

Our 46 years are fundamentally the history of the Andes, of Trujillo, Táchira and Mérida, as one of our values says: awareness of being chroniclers of the present moment and a source of historical record. This awareness motivates and governs our journalistic mission: “Satisfying the need for information of the Andean communities through truthful, independent, honest, plural, innovative and entertaining journalism.” It is also a commitment to contribute to making the vision of freedom, democracy and well-being of the people of Trujillo, Táchira and Mérida a reality.

Today is a time of gratitude to God for always being aware of what we do, for the slaps on the head he has given us when correction was necessary, for his congratulations in moments of success, for his subtle guidance, for the timely training to develop in time capacities and skills that would be necessary as change accelerated.

I proudly say that Diario de Los Andes has been a newspaper and a schoolgood school and good newspaper. Ruth Provenzali and José Leonel Pineda recently completed their internship, they told us that During the internship they learned how to do journalism. Rafael Echeverría says, “learning is knowing how to do things.” Today, Karen Briceño, an excellent intern, meets that requirement and learns to do journalism at Diario de los Andes. Ruth, Karen and Leonel are a magnificent generational replacement. Thanks to Layisse Cuenca and Alexander González who have been their demanding mentors.

Great teachers of journalism have been part of this community. I will mention a few that I remember with gratitude, respect and affection: Guillermo Montilla, Rafael Angel Lujano, Omar Buznego, Francisco Graterol Vargas, Jesus Romero Anselmi, Antonio Ruiz Sanchez, Tiberio Martinez, Armando Hernandez, Adelfo Solarte, Teresita Jimenez, Raisa Urribarri, Paula Rivero, but I must highlight two names: Aníbal Miranda, who in a conversation in Merida, planted the seed of the tree that is today Diario de Los Andes, and Guillermo Montilla, the architect of the journalism that makes Diario de Los Andes. A very special memory for Elvins Gonzalez and Frank Graterol who recently left for the Father’s house after having made history in Trujillo journalism.

Thanks to the business, administration, human talent, production, technology and printing teams.

Thanks to Horacio Coronado who took on the challenge of turning Diario de Los Andes into the best distributed and best-selling newspaper in the state of Trujillo.

Thanks to our commercial and institutional allies.

Thanks to our readers and followers who give meaning to our work.

Thank you to those who have supported us in difficult times.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Today, when we celebrate 46 years, we ratify our commitment to continue serving through truthful, independent, honest, plural, innovative and entertaining journalism.

Remember that at the entrance to Carl Jung’s house in Switzerland there is an inscription in Latin: Vocatus atque non vocatus, Deus aderit—’Invoked or not invoked, God is present.’

Yes, God is present.
