The CNDH welcomes from April 11 to 15 a delegation from the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights

This visit is part of the advocacy led by the CNDH and the Commission for the ratification by Morocco of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, as well as the strengthening of dialogue between the various institutional and civil actors. to encourage membership and foster interaction with the African human rights system, the CNDH said in a statement on Saturday.

The delegation will be composed of Marie Louise Abomo, Commissioner and Chairperson of the Working Group on the Rights of Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities in Africa, Ourveena Geereesha Topsy, Commissioner and Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa, Idrissa Sow, Commissioner and Chair of the Working Group on the Death Penalty and Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Killings in Africa and Hannah Forster, Executive Director of the African Center for Democracy and Human Rights Studies , the statement added.

The program of the visit includes the organization of a meeting on the “African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the prospects for strengthening interaction with the African human rights system”, in the purpose of contributing to advocacy efforts for the ratification by Morocco of the African Charter, and to learn regarding the opportunities and requirements that will result from it and the modalities of interaction of each component of the national system with the African system of rights of Man.

The work of this meeting, which will bring together institutional, academic and civil actors, will be opened by the president of the CNDH, Amina Bouayach, and the president of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Rémy Ngoy Lumbu.

As part of the strengthening of dialogue between the African Commission, the parliamentary institution and national civil society, the Commission’s delegation will hold a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, and the Speaker of the House of Advisors, Naama Mayara, according to the same source. Thematic meetings will also be organized between African commissioners and coalitions of NGOs working in the areas of the death penalty, freedom of expression, access to information, the elderly and those with disabilities.

The CNDH called on the Moroccan government, in its annual reports for 2019 and 2020 and its recommendations and proposals relating to the strengthening of the effectiveness of rights submitted to the Head of Government, to ratify the African Charter on Human Rights and peoples and strengthen its adherence to the African human rights system.
