Founded around fifty years ago, the company l’Albigeoise de Patons, the company specializing in the manufacture and sale of bread and pastries, located in Aveyron and Tarn, is closing its doors.
This is a hard blow for the employees of the company l’Albigeoise de Patons, whose production site is located in the industrial zone of Villeneuve-d’Aveyron. This Tuesday, the company, located in Aveyron and Tarn which employs a total of 90 employees, whose head office is in Saint-Juéry, was placed in liquidation by the Albi commercial court. Every day, the factory produced thousands of breads and pastries. Two bakeries also belonged to the group, the Belloubet brand in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, route de Toulouse, and L’Albigeoise de Patons, in Lanuéjouls. The two businesses, which were supplied every day by the factory, closed shop.
“The year 2023 was fatal”
Like many French companies, Patons’ Albigeoise, which had existed for around fifty years, has been hit hard by the rise in production costs in recent months. “It was already very complicated before, but the year 2023 was fatal,” laments Dominique Sales, manager of the company since 2001. “Just for electricity, we went from a bill of 170,000 € in 2022 to €633,000 last year. The cost of flour increased by 45%. We tried to reduce part of the costs by stopping certain production, but that was not enough. We did not not been able to pass this increase on to the sale price of our products. In this economy, there are limits.” Every day, 28 trucks left the factory at dawn to carry out rounds. “An old economic model that was running out of steam,” adds the former manager. “It’s always heartbreaking to close shop. But we were at the end of the road and we were operating at a loss. We had to make this decision.”
“Bad management”?
This Thursday, February 15, a few employees were on site to empty the factory premises. A feeling of bitterness and fatalism mixes following this news. “It’s sad that it’s closing but it was to be expected, it’s far from being a surprise,” says a former employee. “Some regret poor management over the last decade and a lack of investment to modernize the factory.”
According to the manager, a Job Protection Plan must be deployed to support the 90 employees of the Albigeoise de Patons.
