135 million of these are available for photovoltaic systems, 10 million for hydropower, 4 million euros for biomass and 1 million euros for wind power, the BMK announced in a press release.
According to the ministry, the investment support is aimed primarily at companies, since private PV systems with a peak output of 35 kilowatts (kWp) have been exempt from sales tax since the beginning of 2024 and therefore private individuals no longer need to apply for funding. This year there will be three funding calls for companies.
There will be fixed funding amounts for smaller PV systems. For systems up to 10 kWp (kilowatt peak) it is 195 euros/kWpeak and for systems between 10 and 20 kWp 185 euros/kWpeak. For systems over 20 kWp, the funding will be awarded based on a bidding process.
Furthermore, the funding volumes will be increased this year and next year in a new market premium regulation. According to the ministry, a total tender volume of 1,850 MW is available for photovoltaics, 1,082 MW for wind power, around 40 MW for biomass and around 500 MW for hydropower for the years 2024 and 2025.
The market premium is part of the support system as part of the Renewable Energy Expansion Act (EAG). It is intended to compensate for the difference between the production costs of electricity from renewable sources and the average market price for electricity. If the production costs are higher than the market price for electricity, the system operator is compensated for the difference. This is intended to ensure that operating a system also pays off economically. Hydropower, wind, photovoltaic, biomass and biogas systems are supported.
