“After a unified consensus among the General Staff, we have contracted the professional services of lawyers and therefore conferred ample and sufficient power to advance approaches, explorations, and if necessary, legal negotiation on behalf of the General Staff of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces. of Colombia AGC”, explains the text.

The paramilitaries are thus willing to join the negotiations “that may take place” under the standards of the Political Constitution and international treaties. These lawyers “are fully empowered in everything that is directly and/or indirectly related to La Paz Total,” the statement highlights, and they state that none of them belongs or has belonged to the AGC.

In recent days, Wilmer Antonio Giraldo, alias ‘Siopas’, one of the top leaders of the criminal group, has been assassinated. Giraldo received thirteen shots to the body, his face was completely disfigured and his body was abandoned on a road in the municipality of Dabeiba, department of Antioquia.

The top leader of that criminal organization, Dairo Antonio Úsuga, alias ‘Otoniel’, is incarcerated in a maximum security prison in the United States.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on December 31 a ceasefire with five illegal armed organizations, including the AGC. Despite this announcement, violent incidents involving this armed group have been recorded.
