The City of Saint-Étienne is launching its Cancer plan, a major mobilization to place the Loire capital on the front line in the fight once morest the disease.
A great consultation
The first step is to run extensive consultation with residents. Patrick Michaud, deputy mayor in charge of health and former president of the Loire committee of the League once morest cancer, wants the population to give their opinion “Cancer affects everyone, so everyone must be involved. Everyone must participate, with health professionals as a priority, but also the inhabitants concerned, because they are the ones who know what they need.”
To gather the opinion of Stéphanois, a consultation platform will be put online from this Friday, May 13. At the same time, users and health professionals will be invited to participate in eight thematic hearings:
– Cancer and physical activity;
– Cancer et addictions ;
– Cancer and food;
– Cancer and the environment;
– Cancer, fragility and social inequalities;
– Cancer et infections ;
– Post-cancer: social and professional reintegration;
– Cancer and care pathways.
From these consultations will emerge the control systems that will be put in place as part of the cancer plan. “Depending on the information that the Stéphanois will bring up, there will be a certain number of actions to allow us to decline on the ground in a very “practical-practical” way what we want to put in place” explains Patrick Michaud.
Four axes should be developed: improving access to prevention; supporting patients and their families, facilitating professional and social reintegration, but also listening to and supporting relatives and caregivers.
Official launch this Friday
The Cancer plan will be officially launched this Friday with a day of entertainment. And “cancer prevention” village will be set up on Place Jean-Jaurès, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with prevention workshops and stands. Participants will also be able to learn how to cook “healthy” dishes, benefit from a photo shoot to relearn how to love themselves, or even play sports.
La Comète will then host the official launch with a round table, conferences and concerts, starting at 4:30 p.m. The programming is free and open to all.
