Has the City of Montreal implemented a new procedure to install its parking signs in the metropolis?
This is the question that a citizen asked himself when he noticed on Tuesday that parking signs had been installed on a young tree, in the Centre-Sud district of Montreal.
The panels were attached to the plant at eye level with plastic tie-wraps.
The particular scene was impossible to miss for anyone traveling on Champlain Street near Logan.
This way of doing things raises eyebrows since it is notably forbidden to attach your bike to a tree in Montreal, a practice that damages them and harms their growth.
So why were parking signs put up in this way? Is it the work of City of Montreal employees?
Contacted regarding this, the City’s media relations department confirmed that this is not a compliant way to install signage.
“As such, as soon as we were informed, a team from the borough of Ville-Marie was dispatched to the scene. The signs were removed and the situation was quickly corrected. Verifications are underway to try to understand what might have happened,” media relations specialist Hugo Bourgoin told TVANouvelles.ca by email.
The person who took the picture wonders if the whole thing was the work of citizens of the neighborhood who wanted to reinstall the posters that would have fallen.
