In a message on social networks, the head of the Buenos Aires government and presidential candidate, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, announced that the first 60 Tasers arrived in the country and will begin to be used in the City of Buenos Aires in the coming months.
“After years of being blocked by Kirchnerism, the 60 Tasers that we bought for the City Police arrived in Argentina,” Rodríguez Larreta wrote on his Twitter, criticizing the current national ruling party.
The City manager explained that now they have to be approved by the ANMAC (National Agency for Controlled Materials), and once enabled, he anticipated that the training of police officers and the implementation of the system will begin.
“In the next few days, we will make an announcement with all the details. We take care of those who take care of us with the best technology so that the residents of the city can continue to live free, safe and peaceful”highlighted Rodríguez Larreta.
Tasers spawned strong controversy for years, although over time the debate began to subside, by dint of voices from the ruling party, linked to Kirchner sectors, who also consider that they should be used for certain occasions.
Weeks ago, the Buenos Aires Minister of Justice and Security, Eugenio Burzacoassured that the weapons will be operational “for the months of June and July, when people are trained and qualified.”
