The city council wants to reorganize Oslo – districts may be merged

Health councilor Saliba Andreas Korkunc (H) says so Oslo newspaper.

He believes that a reorganization is needed, but emphasizes that they are currently not proposing changes in the division of tasks or mergers.

The districts are struggling to offer equivalent services, according to the city council.

– Today’s organization can lead to an unclear understanding of roles and responsibilities, says Korkunc.

– Concerned

This spring, the city council collected over 70 submissions both from the municipality’s own businesses and external actors such as hospitals, Nav and the police. Several pointed to the same challenges, such as the fact that the service offer to citizens is fragmented and inefficient.

– There is a lot that works well. At the same time, this report reveals something that worries me, says Korkunc.

The city council has three immediate goals for the planned reorganisation:

* More comprehensive, accessible and equal service offer

* Good and more efficient services

* Strengthened local democracy and increased opportunity for social development in the districts

Asking for input

Possible changes must be thoroughly investigated, and the city council will initiate a hearing where both city districts and other affected parties will have their say.

– It is important for us to listen to what both the municipality’s businesses and districts think, in addition to the residents themselves. The aim of this hearing is that around the turn of the year we can present a case to the city council about what we should prioritize going forward with, says Korkunc.
