The city of Mons also intends to pay tribute to him by dedicating a museum to him… Housed in his former house, located at number 886 avenue Maréchal Foch, in Jemappes. This Tuesday evening, the municipal council will in fact be invited to agree to the draft act of acquisition of the residence for an amount of 465,000 euros.

“Two major reasons pushed us to acquire this residence,” explains Nicolas Martin (PS), mayor. “The first is linked to our desire to redeploy Jemappes, a town which has suffered greatly and which has fallen into difficulties since the closure of its rolling mills 40 years ago.”

“Savltarore Adamo plays Jemappes”

Through various large-scale projects, the municipal college intends to carry out a transversal policy intended to revive the economic activity of the municipality, improve the living environment, attract the middle class and above all, give it a little pride. “We are fortunate to count on a personality known throughout the world and beyond,” continues the mayor.

”Salvatore Adamo plays Jemappes (he is also an honorary citizen of the city of Mons, Editor’s note) and his former home (occupied for around thirty years by the lawyer Régine Wauquier, Editor’s note) is known to everyone. This year, he will celebrate his 90th birthday and 60 years of career. We took the opportunity to think of a project that would pay homage to his career.”

Concretely, the building will house, by 2025 if all goes well, a museum dedicated to the artist and his work. Many collectibles will be on display there. “Beyond this project, carried out in collaboration with the museum center, it was agreed with it to open a space for artistic creation within which young people, the new generation might benefit from its know-how and its reputation. ”

For his part, Salvatore Adamo declared that he was “deeply moved and touched because there are many memories that resurface from this time at Jemappes.” He says he “wants to get involved by proposing to create an interactive place for young people, create artistic exchanges and thus give hope to young people to embark on this adventure”. The project is therefore thought out and will be developed in perfect collaboration with the singer.

“This will become an important place of attraction for Jemappes, we have no doubt that many fans will not hesitate to make the trip to visit this museum. This is a great opportunity for the municipality and a complementary project to the fund projects that will be carried out in Jemappes in the coming years.”

At this stage, announcing a calendar remains complicated, even if the year 2025 is mentioned. Once the acquisition of the building is confirmed, the city will work on developing the museum project with Salvatore Adamo and the Wallonia-Brussels Federation. Subsidies will also be sought. “It is an investment that will be amortized over 30 years. We are convinced that it is well worth it,” concludes Nicolas Martin.
