The Côte-Nord Integrated Health and Social Services Center still seems to have difficulty keeping its staff, since the number of people who have left the company is greater than the number of hires.
No less than 684 people were hired by the CISSS over the past year, compared to 833 workers who left the ship, representing a net loss of 149 employees.
This is more than double the previous year, which saw 63 workers leave the North Shore network.
The vast majority of departures, ie 42%, concern beneficiary attendants, staff assigned to housekeeping or kitchens, for example.
On the management side, it is recalled that the North Shore is struggling with a significant demographic decline. According to Emploi-Québec, between 1996 and 2021, the region lost 25% of the active population.
Promotional activities are continuing all over Quebec, but we are now trying to understand why employees leave with exit interviews.
The union affiliated to the Confederation of National Trade Unions
(CSN) pointed out that its members had possible solutions to propose to improve the results of departures and hirings from the CISSS de la Côte-Nord, such as the creation of daycare services inside the walls.
Better recognition of their work in health facilities in the region might also help retain staff, according to the union.
