In a press release published this Thursday, September 22, the Corsica regional health agency indicates that the viral circulation of Covid19 seems to be stabilizing on the island. No new cases of Monkeypox virus infection have been identified.
The regional health agency (ARS) of Corsica indicates, in its last weekly monitoring of the epidemic for the week of September 12 to 18, that following a continuous drop noted over the last few weeks, “viral circulation appears to be stabilizing.“
As of September 22, there are 34 hospitalized patients on the island: 33 people in conventional hospitalizations (average age 80.3 years) and 1 person in intensive care, intensive care or critical care (30 years old). “The number of new admissions seems to be decreasing in intensive care and continuing care: 12 new admissions during the week, none of which in intensive care“, once morest 15 new admissions during the previous week, comments the ARS.
Regarding the number of cases of contamination with the virus on the island, the trend is rather upward. 683 new confirmed cases (compared to 561 last week) were confirmed between September 12 and 18, an average of 98 daily cases.
Incidence, screening and positivity rates are also increasing. There are 195 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, or +20% compared to the previous week. The incidence rate is 208 in Corse-du-Sud and 184 in Haute-Corse. As a reminder, the alert threshold set by the government is 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This increase is mainly explained “by greater screening”, specifies the ARS.
The positivity rate recorded is 14.5%, or 0.2 points more than the previous weekly report. The screening rate, which corresponds to the number of people screened, increased by 19%, and is over the week of 1,351 people per 100,000 inhabitants.
“As of September 19, 2022, 66.6% of the Corsican population has received a complete initial vaccination schedule (two doses), and 50.5% has received a first booster dose“, indicates the ARS.
Concerning the Monkeypox virus (monkey pox), the ARS does not report any new cases listed this week in Corsica. A total of 6 cases have already been recorded in the region (including one non-resident patient) since the end of June.
