To get the month of February off to a good start, we present to you our selection of cinema releases of the week, which will appeal to all tastes..
1. Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom of Guillaume Canet
For the fifth time, we find the adventures of Asterix and Obelix on the big screen, almost eleven years following “Asterix and Obelix: in the service of his majesty”. The story leads us to follow our two inseparable Gauls to China, where the Empress was taken prisoner following a coup d’etat. Accompanied by the Empress’s daughter, Princess Fu Yi, our heroes will live a great adventure through China, confronted with a new culture, and the inevitable Julius Caesar and his powerful army, always thirsty for conquest. A new adventure in which you won’t get bored, with a humor that will appeal to young and old alike.
2. After sun of Charlotte Wells
At the end of the 1990s, eleven-year-old Sophie and her father Calum went to Turkey for their holidays, seeming to share a real moment of father-daughter bonding. Calum indeed seems to be at his best in the company of his daughter, and the same goes for Sophie who thinks that everything is possible with him. However, twenty years later, when Sophie remembers these vacations, the memories she has of them take on a whole new meaning; who was this man she feels she doesn’t know? This first film by Charlotte Wells is a moving drama. We can emphasize his maturity to highlight the discomfort of a father who does not want to worry his daughter.
3. The worst neighbor in the world of Marc Foster
This comedy leads us to Otto Anderson, a character being presented as a grumpy old widower, nostalgic for the time when he lived with his wife. He maintains rather cold relations with his neighbours, having very little tolerance with people who do not have the same practices as him. When a young family full of life settles down near his home, he will meet someone who will gradually and radically change his perception of the world. We find here Tom Hanks in a rather unusual role; we are used to seeing him in more positive roles, and that is changing. It is still a film with good feelings, to have a good time with the family.
4. Knock at the cabin of M.Night Shyamalan
While spending their holidays in an isolated cabin in the middle of nature, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed strangers. The latter claim to have no choice, that they act in order to avoid the apocalypse. Without any means of communication with the rest of the world, they will have to make the decisions alone…and assume them. M. Night Shyamalan presents a film that fits perfectly with what we are used to seeing in his previous productions, which will meet the expectations of thriller lovers.
5. The mountain of thomas salvador
Pierre, a Parisian engineer, goes to the Alps as part of a business trip. Irresistibly drawn to the mountains, he decides to stay put and set off to conquer the peaks. With Léa, another mountaineering enthusiast, he witnesses a strange phenomenon: mysterious lights twinkle in the night.
This film is a real breath of fresh air, where fantasy merges with reality around an enigma punctuated with romance.
