The CIAB Foundation of the Cabildo of La Palma organizes practical training on… – El Apurón

The Canarian Foundation International Center for Biological Agriculture (CIAB) of the Island Council of La Palma has organized a practical training titled Soil fertilization and nutrition of its biota, which will be taught by the renowned farmer and agroecological disseminator Paco Reyes.

During the training, participants will be taught how to make biofertilizers and ecological preparations for sustainable soil management. Among the topics that will be addressed are the production of wetting agents based on potassium soap, the production of liquid sulfur, the reproduction of native microorganisms, both liquid and aerobic solids, as well as the production of potassium humate, liquid urea and other biofertilizers.

The 16-hour course will take place every Monday in October, on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Peruco Agrícola farm, located in Las Rosas. (Agroisleña), Los Llanos de Aridane.

Prepare biofertilizers, a key tool for agricultural sustainability
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Animal Welfare and Food Sovereignty of the Cabildo of La Palma, Alberto Paz, underlines the importance of this training, which has been very well received as all the places were sold out in just two hours, which has motivated the organization of a second edition.

The counselor highlights that the ability of organic farmers to make their own biofertilizers not only reduces dependence on imported chemical inputs, but also promotes sustainability and environmental protection. “By opting for techniques that respect natural cycles and promote soil biodiversity, we not only reduce the use of products that are harmful to ecosystems, but we also strengthen the resilience of our crops,” adds Paz.

This initiative is especially relevant in a global context where organic farming is gaining ground as a viable alternative to conventional methods. The local production of biofertilizers is a key tool that allows farmers to reduce costs, minimize environmental impact and contribute to the food sovereignty of the islands.
