The Chilean, who appealed once morest his conviction in April by the Doubs assizes to 28 years in prison for the assassination of his Japanese ex-girlfriend Narumi Kurosaki, will be retried in 2023, said the Besançon general prosecutor’s office.
The accused, who denies having killed the young student, should be retried “in the first half of 2023”, it was specified. He will appear before “the Assize Court of Haute-Saône”, in Vesoul, it was added.
This jurisdiction had already been the scene at the end of 2020 of an extremely high-profile trial, that of Jonathann Daval, a computer scientist convicted of the murder of his wife Alexia.
Tried for two weeks at the end of March and beginning of April before the Assize Court of Doubs, the Chilean, 31, was sentenced on April 12 to 28 years in prison for the assassination of Narumi Kurosaki in December 2016 in Besançon, where the 21-year-old was studying. His body has never been found.
The accused, once morest whom life imprisonment had been requested, continued throughout his trial to claim his innocence, despite numerous incriminating elements. He had been extradited in the summer of 2020 by Chile to be tried in France.
