Thiruvananthapuram: The Governor said that the Chief Minister interfered in the reappointment of the Vice Chancellor of Kannur University. The Governor gave an explanation on the VC appointment controversy by releasing the copies of the letter communication with the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister went directly to the Raj Bhavan seeking reappointment. But he said that he would give weightage. The chief minister’s words were paid for by insistence. Although he has repeatedly pointed out that the appointment is not legal, he has received legal advice, including that of the Advocate General. He received legal advice unsolicited.
The Chief Minister also demanded that the process of appointment should be avoided. As the pressure increased, he sent a letter to the Chief Minister stating that he might not continue as Chancellor. He sent the first letter to the Chief Minister on December 8, 2021. The reply to the letter was to remain in the position.
He had informed the Chief Minister that he was ready to vacate the chancellor post. Why is he saying this if he had some special interest. In the letter, the chief minister was informed that the ordinance would go ahead and that he would sign it immediately. Later the letters came. The top officials reached the Raj Bhavan and met him. The last letter came in January. The Governor stated that the letter showed that he would continue as Chancellor and that the government would not interfere in the universities.
