To complete the preparations for the constitutional entitlements, especially the issue of electing the president of the republic and determining the legislative priorities for the next phase, the Forces for Change bloc held a retreat today, Friday, attended by all thirteen deputies of the bloc, and it is one of a series of meetings.
The following topics were discussed:
On the issue of electing the President of the Republic: Focus was placed on the presidential election, and the meeting agreed to launch an initiative that proposes an integrated approach to it. This initiative includes political positions and the constitutional and value approach that establishes a political and popular incubator that pushes towards electing a president who will contribute to launching a rescue path for the country. In addition, the attendees reviewed and evaluated the presidential election scene, and agreed to complete the initiative between them, which will be a starting point for communication with other forces. Representatives Michel Douaihy and Melhem Khalaf were assigned to prepare the document and complete the drafting of the initiative to launch it at the beginning of September with the start of the constitutional deadline.
In the economic situation: The course of the necessary reforms to save from the financial and economic collapse in the country was discussed, represented by striking the bank secrecy law reforms, putting forward a budget that lacks any reform vision or studying the level of the current challenges, as well as evading the Capital Control Law to protect the interests of influential people and banks, and following up on a restructuring file. The financial and banking sector, which is still “prepared” in the Banque du Liban. The conferees stressed that the solution is through the adoption of an integrated and comprehensive recovery plan at the financial, economic and social level, the first of which is the agreement at the expert level between the Lebanese government and the International Monetary Fund, and the basket of integrated solutions is the only way to stop the extensive and deliberate financial and economic crime of the rights of citizens.
In Parliamentary Appeals: The seclusion addressed the issue of electoral appeals, and condemned media campaigns aimed at misleading public opinion and spreading rumors that would pave the way for a campaign of interference and political pressure in the course of the work of the Constitutional Council. It was emphasized that the deputies will take steps to counter any attempt to circumvent the will of the Lebanese people, which was expressed in the ballot boxes.
In various matters: An agreement was reached on the legislative priorities of the Forces for Change bloc, and the mechanism for following up in Parliament with the other blocs and forces. Emphasis was placed on the follow-up of all files in the monitoring and accountability of the executive authority, especially those related to the crime of 4 August, and other emergency living matters.
