MONTRÉAL – The Montreal Canadiens stole the show in the first round of the draft session on Thursday.

At first, the Canadians gave up the defender Alexander Romanovin addition to their fourth round choice this year (98th), to the New York Islanders, obtaining in return the 13th selection of the session.
In a second step, they transferred the selection acquired from the Islanders, in addition to their 66th choice (third round), to the Chicago Blackhawks in order to get their hands on the young center player Kirby Roof.
Third overall pick in 2019, Dach had an ordinary season, collecting 26 points in 70 games.
The 21-year-old was slowed by a wrist injury in his first NHL season. A native of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, he has 59 points (19 goals, 40 assists) in 152 NHL games.
In Romanov, aged 22, the CH let go of a very promising defender whom he had chosen in the second round (no 38) of the session in 2018.
In 133 NHL games, the Moscow-born Russian had four goals and 15 assists for 19 points.
The Habs had not finished their evening since they still have their other first-round selection, in 26th position.
