The cereal harvest in France corresponds in quantity and quality to the expectations of the Moroccan market, according to Intercéales

France experienced a good cereal harvest this year, announced Intercereales-France during the “Franco-Moroccan cereal meetings which were held on Tuesday October 3 in Casablanca.

Despite the vagaries of the weather, French cereal growers harvested in quantity and quality this year. “35.1 million tonnes just for soft wheat. The quantities are good, the quality is there and the prices are more affordable than those of last year at the same period,” declared Philippe Heusele, President of International Relations of this private association created at the initiative of the professional organizations in the French cereal sector.

Reassuring forecasts and rising yields. No more is needed to meet the current cereal needs of Morocco which “recorded for the second consecutive year too low a harvest”, as he recalled at the opening of this highly anticipated meeting of professionals. of this sector estimating, in passing, that the Kingdom’s import needs are comparable to those of last year. Of the order of 5 million tonnes, as far as the miller is concerned, not counting those of durum wheat and barley.

Thus, given that Morocco needs to resort to the international market to meet its cereal needs, “our main message is to say that France has ample availability and quality which are suitable for the uses that the different Moroccan market players make wheat,” confided Philippe Heusele.

France, whose harvest forecasts are reassuring for this year, is in fact “fortunate to have a harvest in quantity and quality which corresponds very well to the expectations of the Moroccan market”, as noted by the inter-profession during these meetings attended by large delegations from sub-Saharan Africa and Saudi Arabia.

Support Moroccan partners throughout the agricultural campaign

It is in this context that “French farmers in the sector are ready to make all the necessary efforts to support our Moroccan partners throughout this campaign, as they already did last year,” said Philippe Heusele.
Confident, the inter-professional organization reassures that “national yields are up slightly compared to the five-year average”.

Thus, according to his estimate, French production of soft wheat stands at 35.1 million tonnes (MT) this year and, despite fears raised by the rains which occurred at the end of the cycle in certain regions, “the quality is “is maintained and will make it possible to respond to the diversity of uses, for all physical and technical characteristics.”

As for durum wheat, “despite a dry and hot climatic episode at the time of grain filling in part of the territory, yields are increasing on a national scale,” said Intercéales, noting that apart from the lowering specific weights, the wheat will also have resisted well at the end of the wet cycle to give satisfactory qualities overall.

It should be noted that beyond these meetings, marked by the presence of the French ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier, “our stay in Casablanca is also an opportunity to strengthen our particularly technical cooperation with our Moroccan partners. We are also taking advantage of this stay in Morocco to take stock of the state of our public agreements,” confided Philippe Heusele.

Representative of the cereals canary seed, amaranth, oats, durum wheat, soft wheat, chia, spelt, corn, meslin, millet, barley, quinoa, rice, buckwheat, rye, sorghum, triticale, and tritordeum, in addition to cereal products, the Intercéales’s missions are: research and development to improve the competitiveness of farms, adapt to market needs, environmental imperatives and climatic challenges; the promotion of French know-how, cereals and cereal products in France and internationally as well as the conduct of sector projects to identify and promote actions of general interest.
