The Central Hospital will no longer attend external shifts: multipurpose care will be done in the Interdistrict Evita

The director of the Central Hospital “Dr Ramón Carillo” Graciela Viera explained that progress is being made with a reorganization of medical care, “trying to ensure that the Evita Interdistrict Hospital regains the multipurpose nature for which it was built.”

The provincial official explained that, although the Central Hospital is currently the medical center that receives the “greatest amount of demand in the province in terms of outpatient clinics, as well as urgent care and emergencies,” it is currently undergoing a reorganization.

“We are trying to ensure that the Evita Hospital can acquire the multipurpose character for which it was built, and due to the pandemic, it came out to respond to a need that the province had in health matters, to house patients with COVID, becoming monovalent ” he pointed.

He said that in this sense, the Evita Hospital will once once more be versatile, since it has an “increase in professionals” from different provinces, as well as doctors from the Central Hospital who will go there to work.

He pointed out that in this way the Evita Hospital will receive the demand for outpatient medical care, while the Central Hospital will continue with its urgent care services, emergencies, hospitalizations, surgery, etc.

At this point, he clarified that those patients who have already taken a shift at the Central Hospital, in any specialty, will be treated, while the new shifts for outpatient care will be granted and treated at the Evita Hospital.

“Most of the patients who already have a shift will be treated at the Central Hospital, as we will continue to provide care in all services, both surgical and clinical, and especially emergencies,” he stressed.

Here the professional explained the difference between emergency and urgency, commenting that emergencies “are all those situations that require immediate medical attention because they put a person’s life at risk: heart attack, stroke, serious trauma”, while emergencies are those situations that also require immediate medical attention but that do not put a person’s life at risk in minutes, such as a feverish condition, a not very severe respiratory condition, etc.

Before closing, he insisted that “This is a reorganization of all the demand and supply that the health system has” for better patient care.
