Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister KN Balagopal said that the Center is suffocating the state in financial matters. He also pointed out that the Center has to give a lot of money.

“The central government takes over the land of national highways everywhere in India. But since there are some obstacles in acquiring land in Kerala, it was said during the first Pinarayi government that the state would bear 25 percent of the amount required for land acquisition. This amount is around Rs 6500 crore. 5500 crores was given by the state. In fact, money incurred by the state for the purpose of national highways should also be excluded from the borrowing limit. Ordinarily say don’t borrow money from tomorrow. Is there any situation where money is deducted for the amount taken yesterday?. Due to this reason, money is being cut by Rs 3000-3500 crore last year and this year. All this is suffocating the state’ – the minister said

The case of each state is not mentioned. While the Center pays 50 to 60 per cent of the total revenue income to many states, Kerala pays only 28 per cent. The minister also stated that the matter has been brought to the attention of the GST Council.

The current situation is that it is impossible to know when the Parliament session will be convened. Meanwhile, an online meeting was called with the inclusion of UDF MPs. The first agenda was financial matters. The MPs have clarified that the financial issue of the state can be raised in the Parliament. But it didn’t happen. They are 18 of the total 20 members in the Lok Sabha. He alleged that the people have understood that the Congress MPs are not standing for Kerala.
