the center-right is already ahead –

Look Brunello

The favorite, it seems, is her, the deputy of “Noi per l’Italia”, Ilaria Cavo. The journalist, who began her career as a collaborator of the Giornale in Genoa, then moved to Mediaset and became known for the interview in prison with the killer Donato Bilancia, is, by a hair’s breadth, the candidate of the center-right capable of beating Andrea Orlando. Immediately behind her are the regional councilor Marco Scajola, the vice minister Edoardo Rixi (who reiterates his intention to continue his work in Rome), further behind are Giacomo Giampedrone and Pietro Piciocchi. All of them are quoted winners against the former minister of the Democratic Party, the most accredited candidate in the broad field, to succeed Giovanni Toti.

Bisignani and Tajani's troubles: the different heir of the Cav with a view of the Quirinale

These are the data from the survey (with a very significant share of abstentions) commissioned by the former governor’s committee and conducted by Euromedia Research, Alessandra Ghisleri’s company. A breath of optimism for the center-right, which reinforces the belief that the electoral debate (October 27-28, if it is not Election Day) remains wide open, despite the cyclone provoked by the Genoa Prosecutor’s Office.

A few weeks ago, with the former president still under house arrest in his villa in Ameglia, the Genoese broadcaster Primo Canale certified with another survey that 54% of Ligurians were satisfied with the activity carried out in two legislatures by the outgoing majority. To say that what was defined as the “Toti model”, and who won the municipal elections in almost the entire region (even in the red La Spezia and Sarzana), resists even the offensive of the judges. Now the center-right must choose the candidate to move forward, with Cavo favored, but with other possible “heirs” still under discussion.

Forza Italia for example, Antonio Tajani has done it explicitly, is pushing for the former mayor of Rapallo, Carlo Bagnasco. Also in the game is the deputy mayor of Genoa Piero Piciocchi («I have always put myself at the service, but I do not say yes or no now, I will think about it») and above all the regional councilor for urban planning Marco Scajola, nephew of the mayor of Imperia Claudio, and given to be on the rise in the last few hours.

The center-right and center-left will probably decide their front man (or woman) by the end of August, so there are still a few days to think about it. “Justice in the last 35 years has often taken the stage more from a moral than a judicial point of view – explained Giovanni Toti – in Liguria, however, we have the numbers on our side, in these years we have done a lot”.

The left must surrender:

An assessment in some ways similar to that made in , by the former “doge” of Veneto, Giancarlo Galan: “We don’t win with a right-wing guarantor every other day”. The former Mediaset director naturally wants to have a say in his succession, the whirlwind of meetings in Rome last week (including the one with the vice president of the Council Matteo Salvini) confirms this. “The list with my name? We will certainly see an important civic list because the civic movement in Liguria is – he told Rtl 102.5 – it represents myself, the mayors Bucci and Claudio Scajola and many other mayors essential to the territory and it still has a very high number of votes”. An open game therefore, despite everything. And already in some ways a result, given that the broad field hoped until the end for a victory by default.
