Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Statements made by US President Joe Biden years ago regarding the transfer of the energy production center from Saudi Arabia to the North American continent, sparked a state of interaction with social network users circulating a video clip that included these statements.
During the video, Biden said: “By 2030, the energy center of the world will be North America and it will not be Saudi Arabia. It will be North America. We produce more gas and oil than any country in the world and we will be energy self-sufficient by 2031, and North America will be self-sufficient in the mid-20s ( 2025).
The video clip dates back to February 6, 2014, when Biden was Vice President Barack Obama, as he was talking regarding the future of energy production, in his speech at a Philadelphia train station.
The clip returned to the spotlight once more following an English-speaking account posted it on Twitter, while Saudis re-shared the video amid mixed comments.
Biden in 2014 angrily declares: The center of the world’s energy by 2030 will be North America, and it will not be Saudi Arabia. It will not be Saudi Arabia. It will be North America. We will produce more gas and oil than any other country in the world. We will be self-sufficient by 2031, and North America will be sufficient in 2025. https://t .co/4yh83mjNMH
Currently, fuel prices in the United States have reached record levels, coinciding with the lack of oil supplies globally, affected by the Russian war in Ukraine, while the demand for fuel is increasing to reach levels similar to before the Corona pandemic.
Commentators on the circulating video said that “the reality of the matter is completely different (from what Biden mentioned in 2014), he is begging the Middle East and Venezuela to increase their oil production,” according to some.
Earlier, sources told CNN that it is likely that the US President and Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, will meet next month.
A lukewarm situation has dominated relations between the two countries since Biden assumed the presidency once morest the background of the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, at a time when the meeting, if it occurs, will mark a shift in the position of the American president, who previously described Saudi Arabia as a “pariah” and without “social values,” as he put it.
Biden administration officials are in talks with the Saudis regarding arrangements for a direct meeting that will take place during the US president’s foreign trip next month, according to former and current officials.
