It is less enormous (327 meters long all the same!) than some of its predecessors but is even more luxurious. The latest addition to the Atlantic shipyards, the Celebrity Ascent will say goodbye to Saint-Nazaire in the coming hours. The liner, officially delivered this Tuesday in the presence of Minister Olivier Becht, in charge of Foreign Trade, must set sail during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, around 2 a.m., for a first trip to Florida, before starting its cruises in the Caribbean.
Capable of transporting 3,200 passengers and 1,400 crew, the boat presented as an “exceptional ship” by its American owner Royal Carribean is intended for a high-end clientele. “The typical customer is a refined traveler, who looks at quality before price, who expects impeccable service,” says Emmanuel Joly, director of Celebrity Cruises in France.
It can sail on methanol
You only need to take a few steps on its soft carpet to realize that comfort and leisure are omnipresent on board (a dozen bars, 14 restaurants including one under the leadership of a starred French chef, a theater, a gallery ‘art…). But the main novelty is at the very bottom of the boat: in an attempt to make cruising “more responsible”, theAscent would be the first of its kind to be able to navigate on methanol, a high efficiency fuel that can be designed from renewable resources.
This fourth liner in the Edge series will have a final alter ego in 2025: the Celebrity Xcelconstruction of which officially began this Tuesday.
