The boss of Mini 83 then turned to Jean-François Vandenheede, his great friend for decades, and president of Futsal Jette. “Jean-François and I have been talking regarding a future collaboration for a few years. It never materialized and then in recent months things have become more concrete. And then it’s not a rapprochement between two unknown entities since we have been friends for almost 40 years. Jette has relied on solid foundations for many years, the structure is perfect and I will be able to support Jean-François who has carried the club on his shoulders for so long.

The president of the Jettois club is delighted with this merger. “I’m delighted with this collaboration because I’ve been talking to Thierry regarding it for a long time. I have refused several collaborations with other clubs in recent months but when I saw that Thierry was discouraged by the departure of several of his players, I said to myself that we might build something together”, confides Jean-François Vandenheede.

This new entity created arouses a wave of enthusiasm within the new club. Many people came forward to help the project grow. A project which is of course ambitious but which intends to take the time to build solid foundations. “We don’t arrive by saying that we are going to play the Top 3 in D2 this season. We want to build something solid and keep the identity of the club. I hope to bring this family spirit to Jette, to create a group spirit that can make a difference on the pitch. Regardless of the results this season, we want to create a place where everyone feels good,” says Thierry Gabrielli.

“With our common experience and our will, we can achieve great things.”

A speech shared by Jean-François Vandenheede, who evokes the future. “We now have a big core, the competition will be strong, with a lot of youngsters determined to show their worth. We give ourselves three years to go up to D1 but for that, we have to build a project that holds up financially. Our experience in D1 has shown us that we now have to be tougher to compete with clubs that are becoming more and more structured. You have to have strong backs to survive in D1 and our idea is to get there with a stabilized and reinforced project at the training level.

Training, priority of the club. “Jette has always provided good youngsters, his youth school is amazing and on our side we have some good youngsters as well. We know that we will never be able to compete with the big cars financially. But with our common experience and our will, we can achieve great things. The work has only just begun”, punctuates Thierry Gabrielli.

Mini 83, the beautiful story of Brussels futsal

“We lived a very beautiful story and it is not over,” slips Thierry Gabrielli, confirming that this merger is not the end of his club, which has experienced so many beautiful things. “We did not sell our numbers to the League and the Belgian Union because we want to keep this beautiful story for ourselves. The club was created in the 80s, it rose to D2 and then reformed for the first time in P5. In 2010, my children wanted to reform the club and we experienced a rapid rise to P1, to one day reach N1 in the League and then win a D3 title in the Belgian Union this season. Mini 83 is a famous story and it is not over. Today, we are going to continue it with Jette and its sequel looks radiant.”
